This XL Windelov Java fern (Microsorum pteropus ‚Windeløv‘), named after Holger Windeløv, the founder of Tropica, is ready to grow on a root. With its beautiful medium to dark green, broad leaves that fringe at the top , this Asian water fern is a real eye-catcher in the middle ground.
In nature, the undemanding Java fern is found as a perennial at the water’s edge and in the water on driftwood and boulders. In the aquarium, it is also best displayed on roots or boulders.
Java fern can be easily propagated by cutting off a piece of the horizontal rhizome with a pair of leaves attached to it. Under no circumstances should this rhizome piece be planted in the substrate. If it becomes covered, it may germinate and die.
Even under medium to low light and with moderate fertilization, the hardy Windelov Java Fern grows well. It is thus a good plant for beginners, but also for aquariums that are to be operated with little effort, as well as for breeding tanks. Even on the land part of permanently humid terrariums it grows well.
